The painting uses the color compliments yellow and purple to create an optical vibration. There is no ground, no vantage point, and no context that defines space. The effect is a kind of astral floating electric image.
The image was sketched in a lucid state while listening to music. It was discovered later that the sketch offered a good opportunity for a color experiment. It also draws on inspiration from Inuit art at the Denver Art Museum.
