Abstract
A view from near the top of Big Hollow Road, about fifteen miles west of Laramie, Wyoming. Jelm Mountain is a prominent feature in the distance on the left. The top of Sheep Mountain is just visible on the far right. There are two groups of horses visible in the painting, part of a herd of formerly feral horses maintained on the ranch property.
The painting represents the brief season on the Wyoming prairie when the grasses are green and growing. The passage of time is also seen in the evanescent colors of low sunlight and long shadows just before sunset. Above all, the painting is about the sublimity of open spaces and clear skies.
